When the 8th inning began, the Phillies faced a 2-1 deficit, and had been rattled by Cardinals starting pitcher Kyle McClellan – Who?

At the end of the 8th inning, the Phillies held a 10-2 lead over St. Louis that propelled them to their 46th, and maybe their wildest win of the year.

Well, that was worth the wait, in more ways than one.

After a delay that lasted a little bit more than an hour, the Phillies brought the rain down in buckets – in the form of runs. They exploded with five home runs, as they crushed Chris Volstad and the Florida Marlins 9-1 Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park in game 1 of a truncated 4-game series.

All year long, the Phillies have tortured themselves and their audacious fan base with tight low scoring victories led by their star-studded rotation of aces. With pitching, they have maintained the best record in baseball for most of the year, and have kept their NL East foes at bay in the standings.

There was no mistaking Philadelphia Soul head coach Mike Hohensee Wednesday when he said he has no trust in either of his quarterbacks.

Sitting at 6-2 and coming off an ugly 58-42 loss in which the Soul was simply unable to slow the attack of the Jacksonville Sharks, QB Ryan Vena got the nod when the Georgia Force came to town Friday night.
