According to philadelphiaeagles.com, Jason Avant has resigned with the Eagles for five years locking him up until 2014. Avant has established himself as a premier slot receiver with a knack for making the tough grab in his first four seasons in the midnight green.
Contract details have not been released as of yet, though I expect it to be in the $15-$20 million range.
Also, the Eagles have reportedly shown interest in former Colts CB Marlin Jackson. Jackson was non-tendered by the Colts last week and is now an unrestriced free agent. Jackson is coming off a torn ACL.
Since entering the league as a 1st round pick back in 2005, Jackson has been known as a strong tackler with adequate cover skills. The Colts ran a Tampa-2 defensive scheme during his tenure which stresses tackling ability more than range in coverage. Jackson is only 26-years-old and his fine tackling skills might make him of interest to the Eagles as a potential free safety candidate.
In other Eagles related news, free agent DE Aaron Kampman officially signed with the Jaguars taking the last legitimate candidate to fill the Birds need off the market. Though it’s possible the Eagles will look at some other second tier free agents as backup types at defensive end, expect the team to strongly consider using a 1st round pick on a compliment to pro bowl DE Trent Cole.
