PHILADELPHIA- The Phillies announced today that they have officially signed free agent relief pitcher Danys Baez to a two-year contract. With the move, the Phillies hope they are one step closer to shoring up their somewhat questionable bullpen.
Baez, 32, went 4-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 59 appearances last season with the Baltimore Orioles. The righty has also seen time in Tampa Bay, Atlanta and Los Angeles after beginning his career under Phillies manager Charlie Manuel in Cleveland from 2001-2003.
Baez has experience doing just about everything, pitching in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth as well as starting in his ten-year major league career. He hopes to be the versatile piece the Phillies need to bring their major off-season question mark- the bullpen- up to the level that they will need to be at to bring another parade down Broad Street.
