J.C. Romero returns from his fifty-game suspension today and will be eligible to pitch for the Phils for the first time this season. Romero was suspended after the 2008 season for testing positive to a banned substance bought over the counter at a Cherry Hill GNC. Romero appealed his suspension but the arbitrator ruled him guilty of negligence. He has since sued the company.
Popular opinion in Philly is that Romero’s suspension was unfair. “Free J.C.” t-shirts circulated through the Phillies clubhouse and the entire Delaware Valley. But now, the wait is over. Romero is back in the bullpen tonight and hungry as ever.
