The first day

CLEARWATER, Fla-  Charlie Manuel isn’t dodging any questions about his Opening Day starter this year.  As expected, Cole Hamels will start Opening Day for the first time in his career.

“You might as well go ahead and pencil him in,” Manuel said. “There’s no sense in me bullshitting you.”

Ryan Howard wasn’t the only contestant in the clubhouse Biggest Loser contest, losing 20 pounds.  Brett Myers has lost 30 pounds, and looks like a completely different person.  Scott Eyre has also lost ten pounds.

Looking for a good read or some more information on Romero?  Leslie Gudel from Comcast SportsNet has written her inaugural report for  She even takes her own photos.  It’s worth a read.

With five more weeks of winter left to go it is encouraging to read about the start of the baseball season and the fact that the Phillies will be defending their World Championship Title.

  3. I like the news on Myers. They could definitely use a good year out of him. Being that this is the final year of his contract, his weight loss could be the first sign that he is really motivated to have a great year in order to earn himself a big contract. Whatever his motivation is, I’ll take it, because he has been mostly inconsistent up to this point in his career.

Myers is a guy that I don’t know what to think of. He’s a nut, but a helluva pitcher, when he’s on. If he can get his head screwed on straight I think he’d be a good #2 starter. This looks to be a good sign at least that his head is in the right place.
