The Phillies agreed to a contract with Cole Hamels today. This will avoid arbitration for the World Series MVP. According to reports the deal is a three-year, $20.5 million extension that will pay the lefthander $4.35 million this season, $6.65 million next season and $9.5 million in 2011.
Some suspected that if the Phillies signed Hamels it would irk Ryan Howard, who’s been forced to go through arbitration once and likely a second time this year.
