Rosenthal: Rays, Among Others, Interested in Burrell

Ken Rosenthal, of Fox Sports and FoxSports.com, reported today that the Rays have stated a public interest in free-agent Pat Burrell. Rosenthal says, the rays are interested “in either Burrell or Jason Giambi if [Milton] Bradley lands with the Cubs.”
Rosenthal also reported that The Mariners like Burrell, and the Rangers could view him as a potential option. The Reds have also stated public interest in the 32 year old right-hander. It however seems unlikely Burrell would sign with the Reds because it is likely he will soon be out of their price-range. The news comes as a relief to Pat as many reports stated his name was not mentioned during the winter meetings.

Around the League:
According to numerous sources Mark Teixeira has signed an enormous eight year 180 million dollar contract with the Yankees. This deal could effect the amount Ryan Howard makes in arbitration this season. Many speculated Howard would be looking at a $14 million this year. That number could rise now to $16-$20 million.
Of course baseball has no salary cap. Is Bud Selig prepared to allow the Yankees to buy a championship? If he doesn’t do something soon the Yankees will buy another ring and leave everyone else in their wake.
